Job Title: Deputy Ward Manager - St Elizabeth Ward

St Elizabeth’s is the largest ward in the hospital with 17 inpatient beds. It is a purpose built Orthopaedic Ward but it caters for other disciplines such as Medicine and General Surgery.
The post-holder works as an expert practitioner and is responsible for the delivery of patient-focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of the client group in his/her clinical area. The post-holder displays excellent communication and leadership skills and is responsible for the day-to-day line management of the team for which he/she is responsible.
It is a fast paced department with a high turnover of patients. It has recently undergone a total refurbishment of its facilities, offering state of the art private inpatient rooms with en-suite equipped with wet rooms, fully wheelchair accessible.
Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our independent private Hospital has just been rated the number one in the country for care in the latest Bupa survey. Uniquely, all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.
What are the Responsibilities of this Deputy Ward Manager - St Elizabeth Ward role?
- Team & resource leadership- Manage staffing, caseloads and resources to ensure safe, efficient ward operations.
- Performance management - Allocate work, complete appraisals and PDPs, and line‑manage Team Leaders.
- Communication & feedback- Maintain strong communication channels and provide constructive feedback.
- Care quality oversight - Ensure high standards of nursing care and evidence‑based, patient‑centred practice.
- Patient involvement - Promote shared decision‑making and support service development.
- Professional standards -Work in line with NMC codes, hospital policies and legal requirements.
- Risk & confidentiality-Uphold data protection, manage risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Equality & dignity - Promote diversity, challenge discrimination and uphold patient rights.
- Interdisciplinary working- Collaborate across teams to achieve the best outcomes and meet KPIs.
- Deputising duties - Act as Ward Manager when required and participate in the Duty Manager rota.
- Support staff development - Provide induction, mentorship and ongoing learning opportunities.
- Promote evidence‑based practice- Encourage critical thinking and support practice improvement.
- Lead change- Contribute to service development and implement new ways of working
Am I the right person for this Deputy Ward Manager - St Elizabeth Ward role?
- Registered Nurse
- Current NMC registration in adult or general nursing
- Educated to first degree level or equivalent
- Significant post qualification/registration experience in nursing field
- Must have recent clinical experience at Senior Staff Nurse
- Demonstrable transformational leadership ability
- Expert clinical skills in speciality
- Demonstrates ability to place patient and family at center of care
- Ability to facilitate and support learning
