We are seeking an experienced GP to join our busy, well-supported UCC at The Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth. This is a unique opportunity to practice acute medicine in a fast-paced environment while contributing directly to a charitable mission, as hospital surplus is reinvested into patient care, staff development, and our onsite Hospice.

Why this role is unique

  • Work in a modern, central London hospital with on-site imaging, diagnostics, and specialist referrals.
  • Be part of a team-focused, multidisciplinary environment with at least two doctors and experienced nursing staff on every shift.
  • Enjoy a role with autonomy in clinical decision-making, supported by strong governance and clear escalation pathways.
  • Every patient treated helps support our Hospice and charitable healthcare initiatives, giving your work a meaningful impact beyond medicine.

About the Urgent Care Centre

Our UCC is a walk-in service managing a wide range of presentations, including:

  • Minor injuries and trauma (sprains, lacerations, fractures)

Operating hours:

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality clinical care in line with hospital and UCC policies
  • Assess and manage urgent and acute presentations safely and efficiently
  • Lead or support paediatric resuscitation and emergency response when required
  • Mentor and support nursing colleagues
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records and documentation
  • Participate in audits, service improvement projects, and governance initiatives
  • Contribute to a culture of patient-centred care, safety, and continuous learning

Essential Requirements

  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • GP Register
  • Experience in General Practice, Urgent Care, Minor Illness, and/or A&E
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to CPD and ongoing professional development
  • Excellent communication and patient-focused approach

Desirable

  • Previous UCC or ED experience
  • Strong paediatric experience
  • ALS and EPALS certifications

Why join us?

  • Competitive rates of pay with flexible working patterns
  • Supportive senior clinical team and structured induction
  • Opportunities for career development and teaching
  • Central London location with excellent transport links
  • Access to modern facilities, diagnostics, and a high-quality clinical environment
  • Meaningful work: every shift directly supports our charitable mission and onsite Hospice

Benefits include:

  • Occupational Pension Scheme
  • Funded indemnity insurance
  • Private healthcare scheme worth up to £20,000/year
  • 27 days annual leave plus public holidays
