Lead Clinical Duty Manager

We’re seeking an experienced nurse leader to head our Duty Manager team, ensuring consistent, safe, and effective decision-making across hospital operations out of hours. The Lead Clinical Duty Manager provides operational leadership and coordination of hospital services out of hours, ensuring safe, effective, and consistent decision-making across the Duty Manager team.

This includes: Managing and coordinating a wide range for clinical and non-clinical emergencies, dealing with and addressing a range of clinical and non-clinical problems, reviewing and ensuring safe staffing levels where required, coordinating admissions, and escalating issues to the senior manager on call.

In addition to the post holder working on the Duty Manager rota, this role strengthens clinical leadership by acting as the team lead for the Duty Managers, promoting standardisation of practice, and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.

The post-holder will:

  • Oversee and support Duty Managers in managing clinical and non-clinical emergencies, staffing, and bed utilisation.
  • Lead on team development, performance monitoring, and professional decision-making consistency.
  • Act as a role model for clinical leadership and governance, ensuring patient safety and quality standards are maintained.
  • The post-holder works closely with Admissions to ensure proactive focus on effective utilisation of hospital beds and provides support for clinical areas as a 08 bleep holder.
  • The post holder will coordinate the staff bank and primarily focus on management of requests for cover for nursing shifts with effective utilisation of staffing resource.
  • The post-holder will have excellent communication and leadership skills and is responsible for effective working relationships across a wide range of teams.
