Description

The Outpatient Department is often a patients’ first experience of the hospital of St John and St Elizabeth and therefore staff are polite and helpful. The department is a 30 individually designed consulting rooms with equipment specific to the various specialties we cover and is in spacious, comfortable surroundings.

Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our independent private Hospital has just been rated the number one in the country for care in the latest Bupa survey. Uniquely, all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.

 

Am I the right person for this Ophthalmic Technician role?

  • Preferable previous experience working in ophthalmic services / clinics
  • Previous experience of carrying out investigations such as visual fields, OCT and biometry 
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Excellent communicator
  • Professional commitment and self-awareness
  • Motivate self and others
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

What are the Responsibilities of the Ophthalmic Technician role?

  • To maintain confidentiality surrounding patient treatment at all times.
  • To support consultants whilst in clinic to deliver outstanding care to patients
  • To support patients and act as their advocate whilst in the department
  • To carry out testing in the department to a high standard 
  • To support consultants in the minor procedures room 
  • To ensure documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales using Hospital approved documentation, in line with NMC and Hospital guidelines.
  • To have knowledge of and adhere to Hospital policy and professional standards. To ensure that team members do likewise.
  • To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for patients.
  • Ensure that each patient is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated, and that this is accurately documented.
  • Participate in effective communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team, other hospital departments, relatives and visitors.
  • Ensure quality care is given, by being familiar with agreed standards of care and to inform seniors, if the required standard cannot be reached.
