Description

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Head Chef to join our Catering department here at HJE. As a Head Chef, you will be required to support and ensure the smooth running of the Hospital’s main kitchen. Oversee that all meals are prepare well, as per nutritional and dietary needs, and maintain excellent standards of hygiene and safety.

Deputise in the absence of the Executive Chef, oversee stock management, liaising with food delivery companies, placing/ chasing orders, ensure that maintenance of temperature records are fully completed and maintain the 5 star Food hygiene rating.

The Catering Department provides and effective and efficient food service within the wards and hospitality events, ensuring the highest food safety standards at all times to patients, visitors and staff.

Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our independent private Hospital has just been rated the number one in the country for care in the latest Bupa survey. Uniquely, all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.

What are the Responsibilities of this Head Chef role?

  • Supervise the preparation of ingredients for and during service working alongside the junior chefs
  • Manage and support a team of commis chefs, demi chef de parties, chef de parties and sous chefs on the section
  • Should have full knowledge of Health & safety and Food safety in kitchens. 
  • Should have full knowledge allergens and food laws.
  • Ability to deal with suppliers and make contact with them
  • Ensure that the highest standards are maintained in the preparation of food
  • Support the rest of the kitchen team during service to ensure a smooth operation
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the kitchen and front of house team
  • Coach and develop the junior members of the team for future succession
  • Previous experience as a Head Chef in a fast paced kitchen environment
  • Luxury kitchen experience would be beneficial
  • Passion for food and quality products and ingredients
  • Be a team player with good communication skills
  • Ability to work in a high pressured environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
