Description

The role is part of a significant investment in upgrading both the IT capability as well as the IT systems to drive digital transformation.  The individual will need to be flexible as part of an expanding and maturing team.

 

The purpose of the role is to manage, secure, and maintain the organisation’s Microsoft SQL Server estate.  The role holder will be fully responsible for the end-to-end delivery of support and enhancement for all of the SQL Servers & 30+ databases.  The purpose of the role is also to support related activities such as ETL and other integration, SSRS, the organisation’s ongoing journey to cloud, various projects and the data warehouse / data lake where the role holder can have significant influence.

The role includes working with the other senior IT leaders on policies and standards, and a technology roadmap.

After successfully completing probation onsite in London, this role will be typically 4 days remote once and 1 day onsite in London per week.

Am I the right person for this DBA role?

  • Educated to GCSE standard with passes in 5 subjects including English and Mathematics.
  • Appropriate qualification in IT such as MCSA Database Administration.
  • Proven experience as a MS SQL Server Database Administrator.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL data backup, recovery, security, encryption and integrity.
  • Knowledge of data warehouses and data lakes.
  • T-SQL skills including writing complex queries, views and stored procedures.
  • Knowledge of performance monitoring and enhancement in a MS SQL Server environment.

 

What are the Responsibilities of this DBA role?

  • To be fully responsible for our 30+ production & other Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Managing, securing, and maintaining the database system.
  • Upgrading, installation, testing, patching and licensing for MS SQL Server.
  • Ensuring reliability and high availability where appropriate and disaster recovery through clustering, backups and other HADR technologies including the use of Azure cloud services.
  • Developing processes, procedures and associated documentation including data standards, ERDs, TRDs and DDs where appropriate.
  • Providing out of hours competency support as required.
  • Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans.
  • Assisting in the SQL-related elements of application upgrades.
  • Providing input into data warehousing / data lake design.
