Description

We are looking for an experienced Quality, Safety, Health & Environment Manager to join the Estates and Facilities Department in our Charity Led Independent Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for the contribution to strategy and policy initiatives that support the effective management of the Hospital and its Estates & Facilities and the organisation’s annual business plan including the ongoing achievement of business plan objectives.

The post holder will be responsible for the systematic identification, recording, evaluation of risks arising from non-compliance with statutory legislation relating to the management of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment within the organisation and to minimise the Hospital’s exposure to those risks.

The post holder will provide professional leadership on Quality, Safety, Health & Environment issues by ensuring that all directors, managers and staff are aware of their obligations in the workplace.

Am I the right person for this Health &Safety Manager role?

  • Degree in relevant subject, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent professional qualification
  • Professionally qualified with a relevant Professional Institute, such as IFE, IOSH, IHEEM
  • Specialist knowledge acquired through Post Graduate courses or equivalent experience
  • Substantive and proven Health & Safety experience and responsibility in a large complex organisation
  • Substantive experience of working in a hospital or similar customer facing operational environment
  • Experience of significant budget setting and management
  • Experience of developing long term strategic Quality, Safety, Health & Environment plans
  • Significant experience of risk management
  • Experience of contract management and negotiation with range of suppliers
  • Proven track record in planning and delivery of quality support services in a high quality and busy environment
  • Management of a diverse workforce
  • Experience of policy writing
  • Experienced negotiator with a range of contractors and others to maximise cost benefits to the hospital
  • Experience of successful Health & Safety support & management for minor works & capital projects

What are the Responsibilities of this Health &Safety Manager role?

  • Support the Director of Estates & Facilities with defining and development of an operational Quality, Safety, Health & Environment strategy and plan to ensure that the Hospital has the ability to grow and meet its business plan
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and development of strategic action plans to ensure improved compliance and performance
  • Review systems and processes across all relevant functions in order to improve efficiencies
  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of effective procedures and policies within the Hospital to meet both internal and external needs and standards
  • To demonstrate specialist skills, knowledge and expertise in Fire, Health & Safety management
  • To act as the Hospital’s Fire Safety Manager, and provide advice & support to the Hospital Management Board
  • To ensure robust contractual arrangements are in place with key providers with appropriate service level agreements and methodologies to monitor and enforce agreed key performance indicators
  • To work with the Director of People to ensure that appropriate people development and recruitment & retention policies are in place for those staff delivering and directing the services within the department
  • To professionally manage the Quality, Safety, Health & Environment function to ensure the highest quality, efficiency and value for money services, and that the estate & facilities provide a safe and secure environment for clients, staff and the general public
