St John & St Elizabeth Hospital was founded in 1865. Under the care of the Sisters of Mercy, an order of nuns who worked with Florence Nightingale during the Crimean war, the hospital pioneered the use of advanced nursing techniques to help those in need.
Now, all these years later, the hospital remains true to its original purpose. As well as being one of the most advanced independent hospitals in the UK, every patient visit helps fund our onsite St John’s Hospice, which provides free palliative care to over 4,500 people and their families each year.
The hospital is located at the heart of St John’s Wood, where we moved to at the start of the 1900s. We cover a wide range of specialties and also have an on-site imaging department, Urgent Care Clinic, private GP practice and pharmacy.
Our specialties include:
- Orthopaedics;
- Stroke rehabilitation;
- Urology;
- General Surgery, and
- Cosmetics.
